Volunteer

Our volunteers are the heart of Winters Heritage House Museum. Their enthusiasm and efforts help to promote and preserve the rich history of Elizabethtown. From gardening to genealogy, there are many opportunities for new volunteers to get involved and contribute to our mission. Join one of our programs or groups and contribute to preserving the stories of the past.

Please note, we welcome volunteers of all ages and abilities. Minors under the age of 18 will be required to have a parent or legal guardian complete a consent form. You may download and print this form or fill one out in person.
In accordance with Pennsylvania law, all volunteers ages 14 and over will be required to complete a background check.
Some of the most needed roles are:
Front Desk Volunteer
Answer the phone and greet customers
Basic data entry and/or typing
Help prepare for programs as needed
Be willing to learn the fundamentals of Elizabethtown and Winters Heritage House Museum history
Be willing to learn and use the store's Point of Sale system
Docent
Be willing to learn detailed Elizabethtown and Winters Heritage House Museum history
Give guided tours
Be willing to dress in period costume for special event tours
Seibert Genealogy & Research Library Volunteer
Staff the genealogy library with at least two consecutive hours of availability between Wed - Fri 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Assist with member and community research requests
Research topics for exhibits and community outreach content
Help digitize documents (training provided)
Improve the storage, inventory, and presentation of on-site books and documents
Data Entry
Basic data entry
Scan paper documents and save into digital formats (training available)
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel preferred
Be willing to learn to use the Past Perfect program.
Pre-school and/or Elementary Story Hour
Help prepare supplies and/or assist the day of the program
Pre-school Story Hour - Second Fridays September - May (except for November) at 9:30 a.m.
Elementary Story Hour - various Mondays throughout the school year at 9:30 a.m.
Educational Programs for Kids and/or Adults
Help plan and prepare activities
Assist the day of the event
LivEtown's 2nd Friday Events
Staff museum on the 2nd Friday evenings
Have at least two hours of availability between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Assist with kids activities
Class Instructor
Lead a class in your specialty craft or hobby
Exhibits and Special Events
Help research and/or setup for temporary exhibits
Follow exhibit procedures, including documentation
Be willing to follow branding guidelines when creating exhibit information
Join a Special Interest Group
Connect and make new friends while enjoying a hobby or learning a new skill
