About Winters Heritage House Museum

Located only ½ block from Elizabethtown’s square, the Winters Heritage House Museum preserves two of the community’s earliest structures. Originally built in 1760, when this area was the frontier of the British colonies, the homes exhibit the building styles of Scots-Irish and German settlers. Slated for demolition in the late 1980s, community members formed Elizabethtown Preservation Associates, to rescue and preserve historic structures in Elizabethtown. With community support, the buildings were restored and dedicated to research, preservation and education of our town’s unique and wonderful history through an on-site museum and community outreach and educational programs.
Winters Heritage House Museum is named after Esther Winters to commemorate her generosity. Esther, widow to William K Winters, was an avid volunteer at the Heritage House. She was also the owner of Central Rexall Drugs, where she served as the pharmacist from 1959 until December 2000. Esther passed in 2003, leaving 33 E. High Street, known at the H.U. Coble House, to Winters Heritage House Museum. Some of her items from her life and pharmacy are on display inside.
